  • Tradesman HFE (High Fuel Efficiency)
  • Big Horn (known as Lone Star in Texas)

The 2022 Ford F-150 trim levels include:

  • XL
  • XLT
  • Lariat
  • Tremor
  • King Ranch

  • Limited

Ford offers a complete range of cab styles—regular, extended, and crew—and three bed lengths from 5 feet 6 inches to 8 feet.

Comfort Comparison

The interior of the Ram 1500 is a clear step above most competitors. Premium materials give it a sumptuous feeling, and a coil-spring rear suspension creates better ride comfort than the F-150.

If you plan to use your truck as a mobile office, the F-150’s Work Surface option is a game changer. The ability to power-fold the transmission lever flat with the console and deploy a table from the center armrest makes it easy to use a medium-sized laptop on the go. But even with classy materials and quality build construction, Ford feels a step below the class-leading Ram.

Performance, Efficiency & Towing

Ram offers gas-fueled V6 and V8 engines, plus a diesel V6. The regular-strength engines range from 260 to 395 horsepower, while the supercharged V8 in the TRX trim pumps out an impressive 702 horsepower.

The diesel engine returns the best fuel economy at a combined 24 to 26 miles per gallon. The gas engines run about 17 to 23 combined mpg, and the supercharged V8 has the poorest fuel economy with a combined rating of 12 mpg. Properly equipped, Ram 1500s can tow up to 11,500 pounds with payload capacities of just under 2,000 pounds.

Ford has a wide range of V6 and V8 engines, with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and 5.0L V8 offering the best values. The diesel engine option has been discontinued for the 2022 F-150. Outputs for the V6 and V8 engines range from 290 to 430 horsepower.

Unsurprisingly, the hybrid F-150 leads in fuel efficiency at 24 to 25 combined mpg. The other engines and configurations range from 15 to 22 combined mpg. F-150s have tow ratings of up to 14,000 pounds and payload capacities of nearly 3,000 pounds.
