COMMON TEST DRIVE MISTAKES

The test drive is an important part of buying a new car.  Make sure you do it right... avoid these common mistakes.

Don't forget to try out the back seat.
You never know when you'll be forced to sit there during a long trip.  And even if you never sit in the back seat, think of others that might.
Don't rely on your spouse's test drive.
Hey!  You'll be driving this vehicle too!  Make sure you're comfortable driving the vehicle.  It's better to find out that you don't like it before you spend the money.
Don't fiddle with the controls.
Focus on how the car performs.  Play with all the knobs while you're still in the parking lot.
Spend some time in the vehicle.
A 10 minute test drive doesn't compare with a 5 hour drive.  Spend some time in the seats to make sure they're comfortable.
Watch your lead foot.
If you're test driving a sporty car, watch your speed.  Many overly-enthusiastic test drivers have gotten speeding tickets trying out the acceleration.
Take notice of problems.
If something goes wrong during the test drive, find out why.  The problem you experience during your test drive may be a problem in that model.
